After Noah and his family stepped out of the ark, God instructed them to be fruitful and multiply. His intention was for the repopulated earth to spread out across the world, following His guidance. Instead, the repopulated people decided to come together on the world’s biggest vanity project. They began a project to erect a tower that would reach the Heavenly throne of God (Genesis 11:1-9). Nevermind the logistical problems there (chiefly the fact that Heaven isn’t accessible by tower, no matter how tall you make it), it was the arrogance and defiant-spirit of man that was the real problem. God confounded the languages in order to force man to separate as He originally commanded, limiting their ability to connive to such a degree.

The remnants of the tower are thought by many to rest near modern-day Iraq (home to ancient Babylon). Whether they do or not doesn’t matter; the Bible account is true, and with it the warning not to trust in human vanity. Instead, God offers a different tower in which to trust…

The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

Proverbs 18:10

The strength, power, and authority of God is the only unbreakable, unconquerable stronghold in existence. It is a strong and mighty tower open for all to hide themselves. Trust in it and you will be safe.
