VBS at North Heights is halfway done. We started Sunday morning with specially designed classes and with amazing decorations all over our building. Then Sunday night, we ramped it up even more with fun songs, skits, and amazing crafts and ice cream. We are now approaching just two more nights left.

VBS is designed to be fun, but we also take it very seriously. In my opinion, it’s the perfect tool to teach the Bible to a wide variety of people in a fun way, reaching people that we might not ever reach. Let’s break down each letter of VBS to make my point evermore.

V – Vacation – Christians can laugh, sing silly songs, tell jokes, and enjoy our lives with thanksgiving in our hearts. Colossians 3:17 says, “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” Whatever we do we do it in the name of Jesus with an attitude of gratitude. Let’s relax, have fun, enjoy our blessings and celebrate our lives in Christianity. Take a vacation from the normal and enjoy this week of VBS for all that it offers.

B – Bible – While we certainly can have fun, Christianity is also very serious. We are told to be of “sober spirit” (1 Peter 5:8). It’s so important to be clear-minded and serious because the devil, our adversary, is seeking us out, and we need not be distracted by anything so that we can resist him when he attacks. That is why in VBS, we take teaching the Scriptures seriously. When you come to VBS, be ready to open your Bible, read God’s word, and make an application in your life. This leads us to the final letter.

S – School – VBS is more than just having fun. It is more than just knowing the Bible stories. Everyone needs to come to VBS prepared to learn something from the Bible. Be prepared to be challenged and encouraged by the Word of God. Your babies, kids, teens, and adults all need to be in Bible classes during Vacation Bible SCHOOL. VBS is designed to be a place to be instructed to a deeper understanding of God’s word. These are not shallow Bible lessons we are learning. These are stories from God’s word that teach us in remarkable ways to be better than we were. In this year’s theme, we are challenged to see what God sees. That’s not surface-level bible school lessons. These are deeper spiritual mature bible lessons that we take seriously.

VBS is focused on fun. It’s fun when we sing a silly song in a high-pitched voice.

VBS is focused on the Scriptures. It’s rewarding when we open our Bibles to see what God says.

VBS is focused on instruction. It’s challenging when we read from God’s word and learn something that we can apply to our own lives.

See you tonight for VBS!!!
