Tonight is the third of our five-night VBS event. If you’ve been here on the previous nights you know what a blessing they are. If you haven’t… don’t miss out any longer. This evening’s topic is “God, a provider.” The Bible is overflowing with examples, stories, verses, statements, and promises that highlight this aspect of the Lord, but our specific focus tonight is on the account of Abraham offering Isaac. Joining us in the adult class to discuss it is Ryan Wilson, from the Holden Ave. congregation in Newport. Prepare to dig deep into Genesis ch22, and the command of God that put Abraham’s faith to the test…

And He said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
(Genesis 22:2)

Was it easy for Abraham to lay his son on the altar atop Mt. Moriah? I would think not; that’s why it was called a “test.” And yet that’s exactly what he did. Why? Because it was not impossible for him to do so. The Lord never asks us to do something that is impossible for us to perform. But sometimes, performing as we are commanded requires us to love God more than anything… or anyone. Therein lies the “test.” That said, you might read the verse above and wonder where the “provider” is. Actually, He’s right there. He’s the one who gave the command. How He comes through as a provider is what the rest of the chapter examines.

Be here tonight to see it for yourself!
