Genesis 13:11-13: “So Lot chose for himself all the Jordan Valley, and Lot journeyed east. Thus [Lot and Abram] separated from each other. Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled among the cities of the valley and moved his tent as far as Sodom. Now the men of Sodom were wicked, great sinners against the Lord.”

2 Samuel 11:1-2: “In the spring of the year, the time when kings go out to battle…when David arose from his couch and was walking on the roof of the king’s house that he saw from the roof a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful.”

Jonah 1:1-3: “Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it, for their evil has come up Before me.” But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish…”

Lot chose to move close to a city that was known to be wicked. David, instead of joining his men on the battle field, chose to stay in the comfort of his palace. Jonah chose to go anywhere but where God told him to go. None of these men were where they were supposed to be. And none of these stories turned out the way these men wanted.

Putting ourselves in places that God does not want us is a very dangerous thing. There are certain places around town, there are certain places around the internet, there are certain places around the office that God may be telling you ‘This is not where you should be.’ We can’t wait until we are neck-deep in sin to ask ‘What Would Jesus Do?’ Because, really, the answer is: ‘Jesus Wouldn’t Have Put Himself In That Situation In The First Place.’

Among your Christian family: that’s where you should be. Serving others in the name of the Lord: that’s where you should be. In the Word: that’s where you should be.

Today, ask the Lord to show you the dangerous areas in your life. And then even if you have to sell your house, quit your job, or break your phone, do whatever it takes to get to where He says “Here is where you need to be.”
