Vacation Bible School has a long rich history in our brotherhood. I have enjoyed it since I was a kid and still now as an adult and I hope you do too.
Matthew records, “At that time the disciples came to Jesus and said, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” And He called a child to Himself and set him before them, and said, “Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me; but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.”
-Matthew 18:1-6
Breakdown the Lord’s message with me:
1. The greatest in the Kingdom of heaven are little boys and girls.
2. The greatest in the Kingdom of heaven are those that are like children.
3. Being like a child requires conversion.
4. Conversion requires humility.
5. Receiving a child means we are receiving Jesus.
6. You hurt a child and it would be better for you to be killed off.
Seems to me the Lord is taking this entrance into the Kingdom of heaven stuff pretty seriously. So, why VBS? and what does it have to do with the Kingdom?
Well, VBS is a great time for all of us (ages 0-100) to be like kids again. Be humble and embrace the good time VBS offers. Be good to the children. Come every night to VBS. Show your support. Enjoy the classes for all ages. Your entrance into the Kingdom of heaven depends on it!
