I’m studying the Psalms this year, and sharing the great little nuggets of truth that come from that study. One such nugget comes from the 40th Psalm, in which David says this:

Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.

(Psalm 40:5)

It’s important every now and then to pause and consider the fact that the all-powerful Maker and Master of the universe has looked down on humanity and said “that is the crown jewel of My creation.” Cynical people scoff at such a notion, but they are filled with self-loathing and a belief that man is inherently bad and only capable of evil. On the contrary, we were made in the image of God. It is not arrogance to accept our place in creation. I would argue it’s the most humble mindset to have: Look at how vast everything is around us, and yet we are the ones God crowned with glory and honor. We have a lot to live up to!

The Lord is full of wonderful works, but His thoughts are on us. We talk a lot about the need for us to keep God in our hearts and minds—and we should—but I wonder if we have paused lately to consider how much we are in His heart and mind. We’re talking about the God who spoke entire galaxies into existence. He is the God who painted the nebulas across the starry sky. He is the infinite Lord over all of everything. How much bigger are you than an ant? To an ant, you are too big to fathom. How many times have you stopped to consider an ant, its needs, its wants, its thoughts and feelings? Hardly ever, I’d assume.

According to the inspired poet, if we were to try and count up the number of times God thought about us, we’d run out of numbers. He is God. What are you?

You’re on His mind.
