The title is the devo. There it is. That’s it. That’s all you need to know.

You gotta work your way to Hell.

The way there, they say, is paved with good intentions. Maybe. I don’t know. That’s probably not always the case, but what IS always the case is this: Everyone who is lost, is lost becuase of their own decisions. Yes, they were sometimes tricked, lied to, misled, etc. But at the end of the day, they made a choice. They did a deed. They performed a work.

You gotta work your way to Hell.

On the other hand…

Who being the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.

(Hebrews 1:3)

Jesus doesn’t need my help purging my sins. He did it “by Himself.”

What a relief, becuase I am very good at messing things up, and not always so good at putting things back together. I messed up my life. I sinned. I did the work, and I earned the payment of death. I did the crime, and I earned the time (eternally damned).

Fortunately for me, Jesus—by Himself—purged my sins and saved me.

Hallelujah!

~Matthew

The sermon is entitled “it’s hard to be lost.” The week after that, I cannot wait to preach. God willing, it’ll be a sermon entitled: “David & Goliath.
