You know that feeling when you would do anything to have a drink of water? As if you ate a package of cotton balls or the dryer lent after a load of towels. Being dehydrated has many symptoms. These include but are not limited to:
- Thirst (A deep longing for anything wet in your mouth)
- Dry mouth (like you could spit cotton)
- Feeling tired and weak (Like the Three Amigos in the movie “The Three Amigos”)
- Dizziness (like you just got off a merry-go-round at the local park)
- Headache (imagine your head in a vice)
- Cramps (your muscles are fighting against you)
- Confusion (As in, you might not know who you are or where you are)
Now, have you ever wondered what it feels like to be spiritually thirsty? I wonder what those symptoms might be. These include but are not limited to:
- Spiritual thirst (a deep longing for spiritual fulfillment only God can provide)
“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.” (Psalm 42:1)
- Spiritual drought (a lack of the “living water” of God’s Word)
“Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” (John 4:13-14).
- Spiritual fatigue (an overwhelming feeling of exhaustion)
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
- Spiritual dizziness (a feeling of being lost and confused about how to move forward)
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5)
- Spiritual headache: (an emotional pain due to spiritual neglect)
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)
- Spiritual cramps (an intense struggle with everyday challenges)
“God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)
- Spiritual confusion (a mental and spiritual wandering around, not sure where to go)
“For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.” (1 Corinthians 14:33)
If you have any of these symptoms, take advantage of the next opportunity to get a drink. It just so happens that here at NHCOC, the next opportunity is this weekend at the Summit Youth Rally.
It’s not just for youth; it’s for everyone (think gospel meeting all in one weekend). We are just making sure our youth are getting the hydration they need. You, too, can come get a drink and fill your cup. You will be glad you did!
And drink your water, too!
For the Lord,
