You know that feeling when you would do anything to have a drink of water? As if you ate a package of cotton balls or the dryer lent after a load of towels. Being dehydrated has many symptoms. These include but are not limited to:

  1. Thirst (A deep longing for anything wet in your mouth)
  2. Dry mouth (like you could spit cotton)
  3. Feeling tired and weak (Like the Three Amigos in the movie “The Three Amigos”)
  4. Dizziness (like you just got off a merry-go-round at the local park)
  5. Headache (imagine your head in a vice)
  6. Cramps (your muscles are fighting against you)
  7. Confusion (As in, you might not know who you are or where you are)

Now, have you ever wondered what it feels like to be spiritually thirsty? I wonder what those symptoms might be. These include but are not limited to:

  1. Spiritual thirst (a deep longing for spiritual fulfillment only God can provide)

“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.” (Psalm 42:1)

  2. Spiritual drought (a lack of the “living water” of God’s Word)

“Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” (John 4:13-14).

  3. Spiritual fatigue (an overwhelming feeling of exhaustion)

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

  4. Spiritual dizziness (a feeling of being lost and confused about how to move forward)

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5)

  5. Spiritual headache: (an emotional pain due to spiritual neglect)

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)

  6. Spiritual cramps (an intense struggle with everyday challenges)

“God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)

  7. Spiritual confusion (a mental and spiritual wandering around, not sure where to go)

“For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.” (1 Corinthians 14:33)

If you have any of these symptoms, take advantage of the next opportunity to get a drink. It just so happens that here at NHCOC, the next opportunity is this weekend at the Summit Youth Rally.

It’s not just for youth; it’s for everyone (think gospel meeting all in one weekend). We are just making sure our youth are getting the hydration they need. You, too, can come get a drink and fill your cup. You will be glad you did!

And drink your water, too!

For the Lord,
